Celebrating Easter Sunday at Alouns Farm was new to me...

We had such a great day with my family, cousins, and friends at Aloun Farm to celebrate Easter.  I really think that it is a great place for kids to celebrate Easter.  They have fun rides for the kiddos, lot of eggs for everybody, harvesting fresh sweet onion, green beans, as well as sweet corn too.  We had so much fun that I really recommend Aloun Farm located near Farrington Highway. Its a great family get together!

Its new to me that VIABILITY can mean differently to different state....

I was trying to gather  more information regarding "viability".  According to Dictionary.com, viability is defined as,

"ability to live, especially under certain conditions: The viability of a fetus outside the womb has increased dramatically with the advent of new technologies and procedures."  As I continued my research regarding what viability means in the state of Hawaii when it comes to pregnancy matter, I found out that each 50 states in the U.S. has their own understanding about it. It was very interesting to find out the following laws, definition and understanding involving viability:

Hawaii: HRS §453-16 (2010)
The State shall not deny or interfere with a female’s right to choose or obtain an abortion of a nonviable fetus or an abortion that is necessary to protect the life or health of the female. Fetus in last trimester was vested with all rights of human beings.

Safety Code 123464

“Viability” means the point in a pregnancy when, in the good faith medical judgment of a physician, on the particular facts of the case before that physician, there is a reasonable likelihood of the fetus’ sustained survival outside the uterus without the application of extraordinary medical measures. The state may not deny or interfere with a woman’s right to choose or obtain an abortion prior to viability of the fetus, or when the abortion is necessary to protect the life or health of the woman.

According to our book, by 20 weeks of gestation the lungs have matured functionally enough for the fetus to survive outside the uterus (age of viability), but special care in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) would be required.

According to the book called "Introduction to Maternity & Pediatric Nursing", The sex of human offspring determined at fertilization.  The ovum always contributed an X chromosome, whereas the sperm can carry X or Y chromosome.  When a sperm carrying the X chromosome fertilizes the X-bearing ovum (egg), a female child (XX) results.  When a Y-bearing sperm fertilizes the ovum, a male child is (XY) produced.  Thus, because sperm can carry either an X or Y chromosome, THE MALE PARTNER DETERMINES THE SEX OF A CHILD. HEARING is the last sense to go when a person dies

This is definitely new to me! This week, I just learned that the last sense to go when a person is dying is their sense of HEARING.  Since my instructor didn't go into further discussion about this topic, I did my own research.  Since this is new to me and want to find out more about it,  according to sources, the last part of the human body to stop functioning when a person dies is their brain stem. Since the ears are close to the brain, they will have a decent blood supply as long as the brain has blood, which explains why the sense of HEARING is the last sense to go when a person is dying.  Definitely new to mee. just sharing.
